My parents have a hexagon shaped tank in their house and they stock it with fish that never seem to live as long as they should. l would like my parent is tank to be the best that it can be for the shape that it is and when l learn knew things l pass on the information to them. I've been interested in the art of fish keeping and aqua gardening for about a year now and I've learned a great deal since l first started the hobby. l was thinking about the aquarium at my parents house and l wonder what species of fish would thrive best in a hexagon shaped aquarium because l know its a very unnatural shape for the aquarium environment. Do you know of any fish that would not mind living in a tall hexagon aquarium? Please also tell me if you have any of these fish, how old they are, and if they've grown since you first got them.
l have a 55 gallon (rectangle shaped) aquarium with 4 fan-tailed goldfish and a 10 gallon (rectangle shaped) tank with 5 white skirt tetras. l bought the tetras because l wanted to support buying unpainted fish.

One word: Angels

The ever popular Beta does well in tall tanks, too.

I always liked having a school of neon tetras. They r small (but colorful & popular) so I did not keep any agressive fish at the same time. They start off really small but get to about an inch long. I also liked a couple of sucker fish & spotted sucker catfish.

I also kept a few black tetras:

When I got tired of it, or they started dying off, I put a couple of Jack Dempseys or Oscars in there. They get pretty big & r fighting fish. I think that u need more than a ten gallon aquarium.

Fish that do not make a lot of lateral movement r best. Fish like Angelfish, Discus, Guppies, Gouramis, & slow moving Tetras r good options (DEPENDING on the size of the tank). Avoid fish like Danios, Loaches, Hatchetfish, & other hyper fish. Email me if u have any questions & please post ur tank size.

EDIT: Goldfish r coldwater fish, & should really be kept by themselves. They should do well in a tall tank, but a rectangular tank is still best because it provides maximum surface area. If u got rid of the Goldfish, u could do the tropicals I listed earlier, but DO NOT keep them together. In the 10 gallon (I applaud u for supporting non-painted fish), u might want to add some Cory Cats or Otos. They r fun little fish that r constantly on the move. As always, feel free to email me.

All fish are better in a more circular aquarium, they just need the right care and handling?
